It moves me to learn of Mr. Phil Yombon's death, though a silent affair it was. (I was only too surprised to learn of it from the Letters section of The National). After years of personal dedication working with The National, the paper should have had the courtesy at least to publish his story and contribution to the media.

Over the years, I had become a fan of this particular Engan journalist from Wapenamanda and it did me proud to read many of his articles and publications!

Wapenamanda, Enga and PNG have lost a valuable media expert and contributor that can never be replaced! My condolences and prayers go to his family, relatives and friends!

Rest In Peace, Kaim!

The National, December 11 (2006)

Remembering Phil
NO one really took note when the life of a young, obscure reporter was snuffed out in a car accident near Hagen last month. The PNG Media Council and its members were too busy fighting the politicians at Waigani to notice the tragic circumstances that led to the death of freelance journalist Phil Yombon. Young Phil worked for this paper when I was chief of staff back in 1995. He was not the best but he was not the worst either. What he had was an interest in pursuing any story that could fill up any corner of the paper and like all hardy Engan warriors, he gave his best when the opportunity came. Well Phil, thanks for the memories. – Big Pat, Miaru River, Gulf of Papua
