Subject: no name posters

is there a reason why people on this board(and others) don't have a regular posting name? it gets so confusing when there's half a dozen people posting under the same name. sometimes it seems as though the same people are answering their own posts. i'm not being snotty, i'm just trying to find out the reason. is there a benefit to it?
