Subject: Where is everyone?

I've been wondering this for a while. There has been so little activity on this board lately, I finally decided to ask what's up. The first story on the review list, the B/S one, received what I'd assume (this being my first session) was a pretty good amount of reviews. Things have really fallen off since, though. The three stories right before "Rebel, Rebel" just got five to six reviews each. "Rebel, Rebel" has been open for discussion for more than two weeks and has only one full review. I reviewed everything up to that point, but almost all the stories are pretty long and it's worn me down. Is that why other people aren't reviewing/have quit/never reviewed in the first place? I was going to make "Rebel, Rebel" the one story I skipped and just move on to the next one, but "Tornado of Souls" is also huge. Every time I try to go to read it, I think about the length and can't bring myself to do it. I know we got extra reading time but judging by the lack of recent reviews, that doesn't appear to have helped much.

The stories are LONG, and daunting. I'm working a lot right now, and I'm exhausted, and between all my other internet things on the go, I just don't have the energy to sit and read a really long fic. I mean, I'm sure they're all great, and eventually I will be able to read them, but the knowledge that there's somewhat of a deadline for me to review them? Just makes it harder.

Yeah, I'm lazy. If y'all were working 14 hour shifts on 5 hours of sleep, you'd be lazy too. :P

Unfortunately not long after the B/S story, my husband and put an offer in on our first house, which was consequently accepted. So much of the past 2-3 of months have been involved with packing, moving and unpacking. Anyone who has bought a house will then tell you that unless you bought brand new, you are then faced with renovations!

Unfortnately the renovations are sucking up almost all of my time, so that reading and reviewing has all but dropped off the radar. I've pretty much become a hard-core watcher of all the design/renovation shows, trying to get ideas, which has sucked up valuable reviewing time. In amongst all this we also got a new labrador puppy, who also demands time and attention.

Maybe for the next session, to improve response times, we need to set a lower page limit - say no more than 80 pages?

While 200 pages might not be so much when you're only reviewing a single story, even half that can be very daunting when you've got 6-8 stories to read. Several of this rounds stories were VERY long. I read and reviewed 5 of the submitted 7 (and even started reading a sixth), but was overwhelmed by the prospect of having to finish two more long stories.

I support the suggestion to reduce the maximum pages for any given submission. Perhaps a reduction in the number of categories too??? (say 6)

Why don't we chop them to 4?

Much of the quality fic actually falls into 2 areas - either B/A or B/S. There are on occasion other fics which are recommended, but I think the "other" category could easily the remaining topics, with slash still being a category on its own.

Reducing the number of categories at this point would be a smart move, as the show is winding up and its profile will not be as high (obviously!), therefore the number of fics produced is likely to drop accordingly, along with the number of people reading them. As it is, many of us doubled up on our categories and I think with the demands of work, home etc, its not the best way to do things.

So for the next session, I suggest limiting the stories to the following categories: B/S, B/A, Other (any other character combinations eg B/X, W/T etc) and Slash, with everyone chosing only one area to review.

Any thoughts??

While I have been able to read all the fics they have been extremely long and very daunting. As this is my first time doing this I didn't want to disappoint so I thought i'd have to read them all and review them. I am glad others have spoken up about this and agree with reducing the number of categories and the length of work that we have to read.

Although I am co-moderator here, I still have not found the time to devote what I wanted to reading them all. Life just seemed to get int he way then many, MANY computer problems which left me unable to access the internet at all.
I do apologise at the reviews grinding slowly down.
