Subject: Cyanide is environmentally destructive, that's the BIG problem with it
In reply to: Sea nymph 's message, "Using cyanide to kill fish is hazardous!" on 06:12:25 10/15/00 Sun

They aren't killing the fish with cyanide. They're using a dilute solution to stun them. The fish are then put into holding tanks on boats where they recover. They are then sold in Asian restaurants as live reef fish for BIG money. In getting the fish out after you cyanide them you break apart the reefs totally as well as poisoning all the smaller stuff (the smaller stuff dies, but not the big wrass and other reef fish that the cyaniders are after). So you destroy the reefs as habitat for fish for many years after the cyaniders came through. BTW all this is illegal according to PNG law.
