In reply to: Gabriel/Rio/Khanada/Kira/Narcissa 's message, "Re: descent" on 07:41:10 06/16/05 Thu

The little group was silent for perhaps ten seconds, and even Khanada realized the seriousness of the situation. Gwenneveire broke the silence at last, speaking carefully. "Gabriel," she said aloud in the Western tongue, "You cannot protect them all. You are but one man - a strong and courageous man, yes, but only one. What you must decide is where your help is most needed, what help you could offer. To face Azrael now would mean certain battle, and after our journey (and the run you would have to make to get there) you are in no shape to fight. You must accept that."

She sighed, and paced restlessly. "Azrael has Monet, and intends to use him to break Alexis. Wherever Alexis is, we can assume that Uriel - my Jeff - is there as well. Michael is much closer to Azrael than we, and if I know him at all then he is flying to the rescue as we speak. Evan might even have reached him by now. Cassiel must be with Azrael, but from his words I don't think he has Raziel. Yet. But she won't want to leave her sister...."

Gwen sat down, rubbing her nose anxiously with a paw, but before she could continue Sema laughed. Everyone looked at him sharply, annoyed at his levity in such a serious matter, but he waved a hand, unconcerned. "Pardon me, masters, but you all think much too hard about these things."

"And what would you know?" Gwen took a threatening step toward him, eyes glinting.

Sema backed away, still smiling, spreading his hands in a placating manner. "I am but an impartial observer, lovely one. And it would appear to me that there is no choice involved here...there is only what must be."

He walked toward the group, holding his hands in front of him as though they cradled an invisible sphere, and in his dark eyes there was a faraway eldritch light. Stopping in the center, all eyes upon him, the elf pressed his hands closer together as though fighting against a great pressure, and a light began to glow there, like a sputtering candleflame that grew brighter and steadier the closer his palms pressed. And with a wild grin and a snap of his wings, Sema wrenched his hands apart and the globe of light, almost too bright to look at, floated in the air in front of his face. He gazed at it with an air of detached affection, and stretched out a long finger to stroke the edge of the sphere, and where he had touched it long flowing fingers of shadow moved restlessly over the surface.

Sema smiled. The globe was so bright now that the entire mountainside seemed in shadow, and yet no one could look away. They stood transfixed, watching the pattern of shadow weave sinuous paths over the globe, and then Sema began to speak.

"Your brother is not ready for a fight. If you did battle him, Gabriel, you would lose. Your hope is not in combat, but upon the slim shoulders of one boy whose mind is stretched to its limit. Therefore, you should not confront Azrael at this time. Your sister is brave and clever - leave him to her. You are the Warrior, and to protect is your greatest strength. It falls to you now to protect the entire world. Su-enwe, great brother, go to Uriel. He cannot hold his own, not yet."

He turned his sharp-featured face away from the light, and with that the globe vanished, leaving the group with watering eyes. "We have come together into the East, but now is the time of our parting. South with the warrior should go the ladies Gwenneveire and Rio. The shadow-wolf should not leave her warrior's side, but as for you, golden one...." He smiled at Gwen speculatively. "Your appearance will be one that Azrael will not expect."

"What...what of you, and the rest?" Gwen asked after a moment, glancing meaningfully at Khanada's stricken face.

Sema smiled, and scratched the wolf cub's ears. "Fear not, anya, ours is an easier road. Like your sisters, you have been too long apart from your warrior. Kira and I will take you on the eastern road, straight to him. Of course, if she consents to accompany us. As for Narcissa - she is under no obligation to remain with us at all. If she desires to return to her sister in the south, it is well, but should her heart lead her east, she will be welcome."

He looked around at them for a moment, smiling, and then flicked his wings. "Well, then, we shouldn't dawdle. Gabriel and his entourage have pressing business south. Say your farewells, dear Khanada. You will see them again soon, but presently your place is at your warrior's side."

Gwenneveire nuzzled the little wolf and placed a paw briefly on her head, smiling, before padding to Gabriel's side.
