Jeffrey stared. Weary and confused, he could barely think straight, until his eyes fell upon little Gwennie. She was wilted on the ground, trembling, eyes very wide and glazed over. "Gwen!" he cried softly, and lifted her limp little form into his arms.
As soon as the blue cat was out of her sight, Gwenneth buried her head against her boy's shoulder, just shaking.
Angie shot Alexis a withering glance and turned the force of her rage against the Silent Paw. ::You...you bastard,:: she spat, dark eyes burning. ::The boy doesn't know about mind-speak, okay? You can't just blurt out replies like that! You....:: She trailed off, looking angry enough to explode as her face filled with heated color. Nobel's purple gaze was even and speculative...and all at once, like a pool of water suddenly turning to ice, Angie's rage congealed into cold, calculating anger. The Silent Paw was provoking her, and she realized with a start how very close she had been to venting her anger through magic. That simply wouldn't do; not yet, at least. Hands curling into fists, she brought up her mental defenses and sealed off her mind from the gleaner's probes. Her eyes glittered ferally as she looked around the small group, and loathing bubbled up in her heart. She made up her mind - the moment they were in the Blue Valleys immediately east of the mountain range, she would leave them, using magic if necessary. She only hoped that she could last that long, with NobelNomis Le Brandonburg tagging along.
