 Kalea cringed miserably at her sister's harsh words. She had expected this, but that didn't make it any easier to bear. What she wanted most, above anything else, was to make Nashota proud of her, and she had made a huge mess of things.

But when Nashota informed her, in no uncertain terms, that Angie was not Jellicle, Kalea started up in surprise.

"What do you mean?" she asked. "Of course Angie's Jellicle, she told me so herself!" A stern look from Nashota's cobalt eyes asked a question, and Kalea reluctantly answered. "Well, I haven't actually seen her, no... But she wouldn't lie to me! She's really nice and she's teaching me lots about mindspeech and she keeps me company when you go off and play with your friends and leave me behind!" The instant Kalea spoke those last words, she regretted it, for she could see the hurt in her sister's eyes. Unsure how to take back what she had said, if it was even possible, Kalea looked at her toes and scuffed a pattern in the dirt silently, her ears drooping.
