Gwenneveire smiled kindly at Monet as they drew to a halt about a hundred yards short of the camp. She turned towards the scent of the fire, watching its distant flicker silently for a moment.
::I cannot say how my boy fares,:: she said softly, ::for we share not the open, all-inclusive bond of a normal pair of our kind. But I can sense certain things about him... There is great anger within him, yet formless but, I fear, growing. He fears very little, but he resents the sudden upheaval in his world.:: Gwenneth sighed. ::When to reveal myself to him, I wonder? Not yet, certainly, not when he has no idea what is to become of him. Dare haste and patience require such symmetry of feeling from me?::
She turned to Monet suddenly, and her smile was sweet. ::If I must face such a time as this, I am glad to have such support as I do. Gabriel and Rio are most kind and dilligent in their assistance, and I can say no less of yourself and Alexis. Perhaps, when all of this is over, for better or worse, none of us shall be outcasts amore, for we shall have one another. Stand firm, dear Monet, and be not disheartened.::
With a nod of temporary farewell, Gwenneth turned and leapt, light as a feather, into the nearby brush. When she emerged on the other side she was the tiny housecat that Jeffrey loved so dear, and she dashed with renewed vigor towards the camp.
::'Ware, Gabriel, Rio!:: she called ahead. ::I approach, in my accustomed mask. Perhaps your ward shall be more friendly in my presence.::
