Heartland Conference Announces Expansion Plans -- Posted on Monday, February 7 2005
Montana State University-Billings and Western New Mexico have accepted invitations to join the Heartland Conference, Commissioner Tony Stigliano and Conference President Dr. George Martin have announced.

Both institutions, currently members of the Pac West Conference, will join the Heartland Conference for competition beginning with the 2005-2006 season.

MSU-Billings and Western New Mexico will join current Heartland Conference members Dallas Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lincoln, Panhandle State, St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s to bring the total number of schools in the Heartland Conference to eight.

“In MSU-Billings and Western New Mexico, the Heartland Conference finds two institutions that are strongly committed to the Division II philosophy as well as the purpose and mission of the Heartland Conference,” said Stigliano. “We are pleased to welcome these two fine institutions into the Heartland Conference.”

MSU-Billings, located in Billings, Montana and founded in 1927, currently enrolls over 4,600 students and sponsors intercollegiate competition in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, softball and volleyball. The university’s mascot is the Yellowjacket.

Western New Mexico is located in Silver City, N.M. and enrolls over 2,500 students. The university was founded in 1893 and the Mustangs sponsor teams in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, football, softball and volleyball.

“Our presidents showed great vision and leadership during the discussions over conference expansion and we are pleased to be able to move forward,” said Stigliano. “We must now focus on the great deal of work involved in bringing in new members to the Heartland Conference as well as look toward the future of the conference.”

Can't speak for anyone else, but the punches Langston threw the last time we scrimmaged would be one reason for Langston.

I have ill will toward Bacone for several personal reasons, regarding baseball and softball especially.

Bacone has been a consistent rule breaker since joining the NAIA ranks. Some of the people involved in their program also have a bad history from their time at other schools in the state.
