Subject: Don't most schools look for a coach that wins?

I heard that Okie City is looking at Wayland's Coach Thurman to take over their program. Since when did coaches that can't qualify for the conference tourney become a hot commodity? I heard the whole motorcycle bringing in the team thing was his idea? What is OCU thinking?

Now way OCU hires Thurman. He would be a step down from Case in every are, both professional and personal.

OCU is bent on bringing their athletic program down even farther than it has gone in the last few years.

They used to be the dominant force in the SAC and a step above all the other programs in every sport.

Now they're no different than OBU. Just another NAIA school that nobody pays any attention to.

McDaniel and his band of hillbillies ought to be shot. He should have stayed in Alva.

"A coach that wins..." Yeah Josh sort of like Hays, huh? Oh wait, this year was the first in four that WBU didn't make the tourney - that would be something your Danny Boy can't parallel.

"A step down, both professional and personal." I won't argue with championships, but to compare Thurman with Win's personal record? Some people on this board have short, short memories - and even less character.

I won't touch 'Hata's comments because it would be silly to speculate, but a coach that has succeeded as well as Thurman has in P-ville should garner some professional admiration. I am sure he would do quite fine at OCU.

That's okay, we'll keep him... at least until someone hires him away. It will happen.

Sorry Josh... I tagged you with the wrong affiliation. I still hate LCU. ;)

I was just a bit touchy with the OC fans this year, or at least of a couple of them on this board.

First of all, hope I wasn't one of those OC fans who ticked you off. I don't think I've ever said one negative world about Wayland, so I'm pretty sure I wasn't. But just to be safe, sorry if I was.

Next, I agree that Thurman would do well as a coach pretty much wherever he goes. I'm still wondering why SNU didn't give him a shot a couple of years ago. (Think what a guy like him could do recruiting to those facilities in a large metro area.) You're wise to be thankful that he's still in Plainview.

Lastly, don't bust on Dan Hays too much. Even Todd Thurman would tell you that he's not at Hays' level as a coach -- probably because Thurman used to be on Hays' staff at OC. (That was, for one year, in between stints at SNU. Who knows -- he might have been a plant.) Seriously, Todd is a good guy and pretty funny, too, when you get to know him. OCU could do a lot worse.

If anybody in the SAC conference is in line for the OCU job it will be BOB BATTISTI FROM NWOSU. The President of OCU was the pres at NWOSU. The two were close and i think McDaniels would hire him anywhere

If Battisti is hired watch OCU become a middle of the road team within the next few years. Here is a coach that likes to slow down his offense eventhough he has the horses to get up and down the court everynight. And what has he EVER done at the National Tournament?

OCU has one of the top 3 strongest reputations in the NAIA and their AD and President are going to go after a guy like this. I know that the President use to be at NWOSU but that doesn't mean that he has to bring a guy who has a career mark of 317-226 (.584 winning percentage) career record in his 18 years at the college.

This job will be a make or break move for this athletic department which has been flirting with the move to the Division I level. OCU basketball has been down for some time now, and they have to get a proven winner that will raise money, recruit the top players like they use to have and get more fans interested. It would be nice if this coach was a young up and comer with no ties to the SAC.

You have got to be kidding me that Big Game Bostwick would even have someone (or himself) get on this board to pimp himself up. We are talking about trying to fill the HEAD COACHING position at OCU not the assistant's position that orders the pizza at the end of the games and walks behind the bench during timeouts to bag popcorn for the fans.

“Bootlick” is a great guy but way, way, way out of his league to even be brought up on this board for that position. I imagine that OCU would welcome his application so he can add to the increasing amount of applicant's who want this job.

By the way, tell Battisti that this is a Christian university and his antics on the sidelines would never be allowed at OCU. His four letter verbal assaults on other opposing player’s (Leonard Mosley) and 18 points per half average would never attract the kids from around the hood. He needs to realize that he is 3 years away from his retirement and he can save his embarrassment from being rejected from this job for the second time.

Alert to Tim Buck 2:

OCU already IS a middle-of-the-road NAIA institution.

Prez Mc Daniel and his crew have turned 23rd and Blackwelder into Northwestern on Crack Street and whomever they hire will be more of the same.

Just like SNU, OBU, OC, etc., nobody outside the alumni base knows the schools exist.

Unlike, SNU, OBU, OC, etc, none of the OCU alumni care, either.
