John Brown playing for the national championship? I'm all giddy about it. Seriously. You just have to smile. Name one unlikable character on that team.

OK, this ends all doubt about the SAC being the best league in the NAIA. Our third-place team in the national championship game (in what some people foolishly said was a down year for the league)? You'd hope maybe the GSAC folks might give us some props now.

That's 5 SAC teams that will have appeared in the title game in the last 10 years. Half the league. That's remarkable.

Here's hoping Sheehy and the boys can pull off one more win!

They out rebounded CC, a much more physical team, and only went to the stripe nine times outside the last 2 minutes. CC was there all night long. They must have really put the clamps on them. Good job JBU! Let's bring it home - uh, I mean home as in the SAC! Sorry, I got wrapped up in the hype.

While we definitely have the deep argument and the history argument, if APU beats JBU Tuesday (giving the Cougs wins over the SAC's #1 and #3 teams in the tournament), don't expect the GSAC folks to give too many props to the SAC.

That's amazing. Even in a year where the talent level of the league is obviously down (although some who haven't watched a game all year foolishly claim that it's not), we're still going to put a team in the finals. I will say I underestimated how far ahead the SAC was compared to other conferences. Here's to a sweep tomorrow night.

That's some seriously good spin. "I underestimated how far ahead the SAC was compared to other conferences."

You've got a bright future ahead in politics, or in editorial writing, if your level of spinning remains that high. Seriously. That's good stuff.

I think four teams in the final 16 and one (the third-place regular-season finisher) in the national championship game proves the SAC wasn't down. And just think -- if OC hangs on against Azusa, we could be talking about an All-SAC title game yet again. Oh well.

Actually, in a post on February 13, 2005 at 11:33:04 you said the quality of the rest of the NAIA was down along with the SAC. In a reply to that post I agreed with you with the qualifier that I thought there would be 5-6 teams at the tourney with D-1 type talent on them, and they would be superior to any SAC team I had seen.

I didn't get a chance to see JBU play this year and I wasn't able to make the tourney this year either, so unlike some, I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on something I haven't been able to witness. Either JBU has better talent than I thought, they got hot at the right time, or there weren't 5-6 teams at the tourney with the type of talent I expected. The bottom line is that they made it, and it's a great thing for the SAC.

Actually, that's not what you said, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it may have been what you meant...and what people say on a message board doesn't elicit hate from me. I'll leave the obsessive pettiness to others.

I said that using your standard, that the rest of the NAIA just might be down. Never said I thought that myself.

Georgetown was one of those 5-6 teams you talked about, and I did see them. And I can say they favorably compared with some of the better SAC teams I've seen through the years. Lindsey Wilson was close to that level, but not quite there.

Bottom line is, I do know what I'm talking about, whether you think so or not. And you just hate that.

But that's OK. I agree with you that I hope John Brown wins. But whomever wins, Oklahoma Christian looks good. OC swept John Brown and took Azusa Pacific to triple OT.

John Brown. We're talking about John Brown. It's their turn. So please, Murray, pull the spotlight off yourself for a sec.

So let me get this straight. JBU had a pretty average year. It didn't look like they had the talent they've had over the past 5 years and they had an mediocre season resulting in a third place finish in the SAC. Now they've made an incredibly improbable run to the finals, allowing a great guy like Sheehy the chance to win a championship and bringing more glory to the SAC...and what one of our posters gets out of all this is, 1) He believes it proves that he was right in a debate that took place over a month ago that everybody else has moved on from, 2) OC is going to come out looking good, 3) He's the greatest SAC expert and people hate him for that.

And it's everybody else that is too "Bison-Centric", "Star-Centric" or whatever to look at things objectively? I think we may have somebody who is a little too "Murray-centric."

If you guys had turned out to be right, you'd be pointing it out, too. You know it. No sense arguing about that. I'll let it drop if you will.

Ray is right, in a sense. Not in his bashing of me, but in the sense that this conversation should be about John Brown's amazing accomplishment. Third-place teams from any league, at any level, don't get this chance too often. I'm thrilled for John Sheehy, who is a good guy and who, through the years, hasn't gotten the credit for being as good of a coach as he is.

I'm with Dad -- I've got no problem rooting for the Golden Eagles to win it all. Whatever makes the SAC look good is OK by me.

We're the best conference, no matter what happens tonight. We may not agree on much, but we can all agree on that.
