The Dream
Chapter 10


"Where is it coming from?" asked Vicki fearfully.

"It seems like it is in the kitchen area of the company." Replied Alec, eyebrows scrunched up.

They ran down the hall and they pushed the door opened slowly. Alec quickly pulled his hand from the handle as
it was very hot. What they saw stopped them from entering. It seemed that the electric socket had many plugs,
and caused a spark which lit the now burning pile of paper beside it, sending little burning pieces of paper into the
air, which landed on more paper and other small appliance in the kitchen. Alec and Vicki slowly backed away as
the fire was soon spreading to the door. Very quickly, it spread, sparks flying when the fire touched electrical
appliances. Alec shook Vicki who was frozen in fear.

"Vicki! We have to get out of here! The smoke will get to us!" yelled Alec.

Vicki shook her head to get herself to think. She looked at the fire that was now spreading past the kitchen area
and onto the desks. "But the exit it on the other side of the fire!"

"We must get back to my office to call for help!" Alec took Vicki's hand and ran into his office. "Close the door
Vicki! Try to put something to block out the smoke from the gap." Alec said as he dialed the phone. Vicki
nodded her head. She quickly put her jacket at the gap.

"Oh…the phone is still working! Hello? This is 1729 Said Gai Street(I made it up). There's a fire and me and
another person is trapped…please hurry!" Alec hung up the phone.

"Alec, the smoke! It's seeping through."

"It's okay…they'll get here very soon…" said Alec and he muttered to himself, "I hope…"

Vicki coughed. "Alec," She ran to him and gave him a tight hug.

Alec was caught surprised but he slowly smiled. "Vicki, it's okay. We'll be fine…cough…" He took Vicki to his
seat. "Let's sit here on my chair." Alec sat down and Vicki sat on his lap and hung her legs over the arm of the
chair. "Alec…" Vicki whispered, as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Though it wasn't very long, time seemed to stop for them, important seconds ticked away like minutes and the
firemen still hasn't arrived.

"Vicki…Vicki…"whispered Alec. Vicki didn't reply. "Vicki…you mustn't sleep…Vicki come on wake
up…Vicki…" Alec shook Vicki's shoulder, he shook harder. No response. Soon Alec ran out of energy and he
himself became unconscious as more black smoke filled the air.



"Vicki! Wake up!" a voice cried. "Vicki, please!"

"Sorry, but you must move back miss. This person just breathed in a lot of smoke, she just got rescued." Said
another voice.

Vicki's eyes fluttered. "Vicki!" said the first voice. Vicki opened her eyes. "Ruby?" It was Ruby, kneeling beside
her tears streaming down her cheek and a nurse on the other side of her.

"Vicki! You're awake! Thank god!" said Ruby happily as she gave Vicki a hug.

"How's Alec?" Vicki asked, then quickly added. "He's such a good friend. He saved my life."

Ruby paused. "Vicki how could you?"

Vicki quickly said, "I'm sorry, I will refuse him if you want me too. I won't even be friends with him!"

Ruby said with more tears in her eyes. "No Vicki! How could you have not told me that you liked him? I'm your
best friend! He is in love with you, Vicki. You must treat him well, or else…" laughed Ruby.

Vicki who was not expecting this, gave a relieved laugh. She hugged Ruby. "Thank you, Ruby." Whispered Vicki.

Two doctors walked quickly by them having a discussion. "But how is he?" said one doctor. "At the moment, that
guy needs to go to the hospital right now." Replied the other. "Really? It didn't look that serious. Just because
of…"

Vicki froze and was in shock. She quickly stood up from the stretcher she was on. "Hey, Vicki! Where are you
going?" yelled Ruby as she tried to grab her. Vicki ignored her, she must find Alec.


Vicki ran past many reporters and firemen firing their water hose at the blazing fire, yelling his name. She was
soaked, running through many puddles of water from the water. "Alec! Alec!" Vicki stopped to cough and catch
her breath.

A nearby reporter was saying, "As you can see, this place is still in flames, and it is said a man is badly injured
from this fire…"

Vicki ran past many on lookers, police and doctors all talking about the injured person. "Alec! Where are you?"

"Vicki!" Vicki quickly turned around, she searched the crowd looking for the caller. There Alec started to run
towards her. Vicki widen her eyes, "Alec!"

"Alec!" Vicki gave Alec a tight hug. Her eyes welling up with tears. "I was so scared. They said a man was
injured, I thought it was you!" Vicki said quickly, not taking a breath.

"Shhh…."Alec hushed her. "I'm alright. It was just a fireman that was in the building, he had a filing cabinet fall
onto his leg. He is in pain, he just needs to go check for broken bone. Reporters always stretch the truth."

Vicki hugged him tightly again. "I was just so scared that we would never be able to see each other again." And
Vicki cried.

"It's okay, hush…" said Alec quietly, wiping away her tear.

"I just wanted to say that," Vicki looked up into his eyes. "I love you…"

"I love you too…" said Alec affectionately, happy he could finally hear Vicki say it.

"Oh Alec, the dream…"

Alec put his finer onto her lips. Vicki stopped talking and Alec bent down and gently kissed her lips. He pulled
back and whispered again. "I love you." His lips pressed down onto hers again, long and gentle. Everything
around them was of no importance, as they absorbed themselves into their own world…the world where only
they existed.
