Believe it or not, a professional H/M can do multiple hair style changes on many girls and still have them out on time! They do not take out extensions between changes, though. If a child uses extensions and wants two ponytails, then the extensions are put on in a way that would allow the back of the hair to be parted. (extensions on each side of the part) Also, many of the girls wear falls for beauty, and hats for sw and westernwear so that covers up a lot. The fact that the H/M can do multiple style changes quickly and they still look great is, unfortunately, why H/M are so popular and expensive. Try paying a good one at a national and then watching very carefully and practice later at home. As to boots and hats, they are purchased "normally" and then covered with superstretch to match the outfit. It is really not too hard to do - you just cut large pieces, glue on and cover seams with stones and decorations.

Thank you so much for your help! Now my problem with the westernwear has been solved, we know we can make her outfits now without having to worry about where to get fancy boots and a hat. Do you have any idea where I could purchase a regular pair of boots and a hat for my daughter? Right now that's my problem with understanding some of these details. I understand exactly what it is that I need, I just don't quite know how to get it yet lol.

Your information about the hairstyles was very helpful. We'll probably end up hiring someone for most of her national pageants, but I just needed to know how it was done so that I can get what she needs for her hair. So if
I'm correct, I bring the extensions to the pageant and give them to the H/M artist who will style her hair? Can any of the extensions be reused for another pageant(since they can get expensive)? Do you have any idea of a good site/store that I'd be able to buy the appropriate falls/extensions for pageants? Also, during your post you noted that the hats and falls can cover some of the areas that got "messed-up" from taking previous styles out. So if my daughter competed in sportswear first and wore her hair up, then after that competition we'd just take her hair down and cover it with a fall to cover the messed-up areas so she can compete in beauty? Approximately how much time will we have between competitions to make these switches?

As you can see, we've got a long way to go! But like I said, I won't be taking her to that level for awhile and I need all the time I can get to prepare her(and me!). I appreciate your help with these questions, and anything else you have to offer would be great!

I got my daughter's hat and boots from a westernwear store - just make sure she can model in them. As to extensions... there are places that sell falls (Farrah's, Sydneys, etc.) that I see on the voy boards. They may sell extensions, too. We bought my daughter's extensions (the one time that she wore them) at an asian store that sells lots of human hair. There is one of these in practically every town. Go on on one of the bigger boards and ask where people get them. You need to make sure and wash it first or it won't hold curl. Then many use the hair glue that you buy there to glue one strip to another to make it double thick. You part your child's hair across the back. You then use the extension glue to glue them onto your child's scalp making rows down the back that are a few inches apart. You will remove the extensions after the pageant by soaking them with the extension glue remover stuff or just saturate her hair in conditioner and let her lay in a tub of water or even just let her go swimming. You must have the extensions in before you go to the H/M though. I have even seen kids with them in the night before because of early H/M times. You can wash them and use them again. Like I said, my daughter only used them once - she has really thick hair and didn't need them so I am not an expert on them. I do know that it seems like everyone is using falls these days. You take it rolled to the H/M the night before. As to hairstyle changes, beauty is always the first event because the hair gets messed up after that. It is usually beauty, swimwear and then proam events.
