So in my post I chose the mid-point -three months from now, which seems reasonable to me.Of course it could be in six months time or it could even be tomorrow. But what we do know are the following facts: One customer we know about-Target- has been very hush hush about their initiative which is wrapped in layers of confidentiality.Target conference calls have been very non-specific about it,referring only to the fact they see the loyalty initiative as one to significantly strengthen their relationship with their best ex-store card customers. We know 8 million smart visa cards have been issued and we know that each of them is loaded with Catuity software. We also know that the loyalty initiative has been partly funded by giants such as Mattel,Pepsi,Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble. I infer from the above that this launch, when it happens ,will be accompanied by a media blitz, with Visa and Target statements(and probably IBM as the terminal manufacturer),and accompanying advertising campaign to extract maximum value and competitive advantage from it. All of the above make good commercial sense to me,particularly as there has been a lot of secrecy surrounding their plans. For example,IBM has never been named as the terminal supplier yet we all know it is form press reports. Why not?-it's strange. And Catuity has never been named as the loyalty software provider. A substantial number of press reports, from reputable card news publications, quoting senior executives of other companies and banks, over the last six months, have referred to the Target launch as what they are waiting for,to see how they can rollout their own smart card initiatives. As for other customers,I have no idea who they are. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
