(like me) > >The matter is more difficult than it seems... The matter is difficult indeed. Love the Vibe. Love Limehouse Lizzy (small reservations about Jan 3rd gig apart) for keeping the name alive. Love Dan from The Darkness wearing a Lizzy T-shirt and keeping the name alive. So why do I have a problem with John and Scott's band? Maybe because I grew up with a band called Thin Lizzy. Thirteen when I first heard Whiskey. Sixteen when Jailbreak came out, saw them on the telly then eventually that first magical gig at the Apollo in Glasgow. Eighteen when Live And Dangerous came out and THAT gig at the Apollo! The highs and the lows from then on. The anticipation for the much delayed Bad Reputation to come out. The disappointment when Chinatown did. The dull feeling when they announced they were splitting. Robbo joining them onstage at the Apollo in '83. Grand Slam days and disappointments - it's personal they blew my hometown gig. Phil's decline into the dark places - was in denial but my better half could see it. Phil's death when I was 25. Been there, seen it, done it with "New" v "Old" Lizzy debate. The main argument for New Lizzy is that they are as close as some people will ever get to the real thing. Maybe they are as close as some people will get and maybe they do keep the name alive but they are not Thin Lizzy. Wrote this last night in the wee small hours. Posting this morning in the cold light of day. Not meant to start a flame war, just sharing. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
