But Matt, you don't hear of too many people being killed with illegally obtained VCR's!

I watched a news report once on the teen gangs in Florida. The reporter asked them where they got their guns, they all looked at her like she was an idiot, "we steal them from people's houses, of course", was the answer.

You might think that if theives hear that you have guns in your house, they might avoid burglarizing YOUR home. But no, guns are what they are looking for, you just set yourself up as a target.

I'm not telling you that because guns get stolen, they should be illegal in the first place...I'm asking you why would you want a gun in your home when it is 22 times more likely that a member of your family will be killed by the gun than an intruder will; and that legally purchased guns are where criminals obtain their weaponry?

Any police officer will tell you that locks, lights, and dogs are far a more effective defense against intruders than guns.
