Subject: What is your favorite fic?

I'm about to launch this site, so here is something to start a discussion. What is your favorite fanfic?

I have a hard time choosing a favorite, but I'll list my top few:

Exquisite Corpse by d.irge and Thrombus. This story is just amazing. The writing is so smart and the story never loses its sense of humor, despite the depths of angst that it sinks to. I've re-read this story about five times and I am constantly checking to see when they have posted a new chapter.

Daemons Luminati by Kalima. An incredible concept, perfectly executed. The writing is so beautiful, it's like reading poetry. It's also very very dark, but with a sense of hope.

Necessary Evils by Barb C. Barb writes the most believable, absolutely in-character Spike/Buffy long-term relationship that I've ever read. She doesn't gloss over Spike's potential for evil, doesn't turn him into a white hat, and doesn't give him a soul. Yet she still manages to give a convincing portrayal of his redemption and relationship with Buffy.

Haunt of the House by Jericho TGF. Jericho TGF is a master of writing snappy, realistic dialogue. Her plot is also excellent, with an incredibly creepy villain.

I also love stories by ... well ... too many authors to count! wisteria, Valerie, Lori and Magpie ... many many more ...

I have to agree with you on Kalima's Daemons Luminati...it's an exceptional piece. I did have a couple of qualms over the Willow characterization but it was such a small part of the story it didn't affect the imapct the piece had on me. Which was significant. This is a piece I'd rec to anyone, even those who generally avoid the Spuffy pairing or pieces focusing on redemption.

Rachel Anton is working on something called The Geek Series that focuses on Willow and Spike with out dimenshing their connections to their canon pairings. The series offers honest characterization and a good storyline to boot. A glimpse into the redemption of *both* thses characters. http://naturalblues.org/rapture/fiction Which will take you to a fiction index but the pieces are easy enough to find from there.

Of course I have to mention Anna S and Season Noir which was started before it was concluded that Spike would receive a soul-yet in the topsy-turvy world of demon controlled darkness an unsouled Spike is working with the opposition for essentially the greater good. You know sort of undercover Spike. http://www.drizzle.com/~eliade/demon_noir.html

My all time fave has to be the Child and Sire Saga by Kallysten. She writes her fics so true to character that you almost believe that it's Joss himself telling the story of Buffy and Spike the way it should be.

Oh, I love Season Noir! Should have put that on the list. (I greatly prefer soulless Spike fics anyway ... the ethical dilemmas aren't nearly as interesting to me when he has a soul). I love the universe that Anna S creates with that fic ... so atmospheric and visual that I almost feel like I've been there ...

My favorite fic is "Affinity" - Margin(ginmar) writes the best sex scenes, and lovely, pointed conversations which should have taken place on the show, but didn't. It rocks. :)

>Favorite fanfic...hmmmm...can't pick just one. The first B/S fanfic I ever read was Annie Sewell-Jennings' "Illumination", followed by "Incandescence", and those two beauties remain among my favorites, being sweet yet thoroughly plausible explorations of Buffy's recognition of her true feelings for Spike and how she acts upon them. Of late, Mary's incredible, epic retelling of Season 6, "Journeys", immediately placed itself among the tops on my list, as well as Nan Dibble's awesome "Blood" series starting w/"Old Blood" and continuing through "Blood Rites" (WIP); these stories include perhaps the best-ever characterization and explanation of vampire ways - unvarnished and undeniably gritty, perfectly believable without (further) demonizing vampires in general and Spike in particular. (Note - I've often felt that judging vampires by human standards is unfair and unrealistic, and so, apparently, does this amazing author.) All of these are well worth the time required for reading them - B/S fans should love them for their high-quality writing and accurate character portrayals.

For me Shadow Lynn Parker who just killed herself by the way, wrote the best sensual scenes in book history and she has that sales to prove it. Next the guy that writes about mobsters Bob D Caterino. His gangster books are better then Puzzo. The third choice would have to be King. They all are the best at what they do.
