I am sticking to one name for each character. Of course, that includes the first and last names. Just be glad I didn't decide to toss in middle names or nicknames (like I did in FHO).

E, I'm not trying to be callous about your request. When I started this story, I adopted that name use and convention on purpose. It actually serves a function in the scope of the story, even if it is not readily apparent. I select names very carefully for my characters. It is not just an arbitrary name grab. I think about the first name, the last name, sometimes the middle name even when I don't reveal it, how the names sound when the first and last names are written and spoken together, how they sound on on an individual basis, what the typography looks when names are included, and how narrative is affected by the presence of the names.

I'm not kidding, I really do think about all that stuff when I write. There is often alegorical or symbolic meaning encoded in the names. I do understand what you mean when you say it can get confusing, but maybe I am doing that on purpose. Think about it. Here is one of my favorite quotes about names. It is from TS Elliot (if I remember correctly):

"What is in a name?
All that a man was when the body departs,
And memories take the short road home."
