Subject: Kia Spectra 5

I bought a spectra 5 in may, and have had nothing but problems abd disappointments with it. It's been mostly little problems, but way more than should go wrong with a new car! I hope people will think twice before buying one. My husband did not want to buy a kia, but i needed a work car good for commuting, and we heard that kias reputation had improved. We did not research it enough, and got caught up in the appeal of the new models eye cathing design, and decent price. The first week I had it, the check engine light came on, when I brought it in, they said it was just the fuel overflow indicator, and reset it. Then a couple days later, while commuting my 1.75 hrs to work, at 4 am., the front faring fell off on the freeway! Needless to say it was ran over by many other cars. I immediately called the dealer that day to tell them, they laughed at me!!! They said they had never heard of a piece of the car falling off like that. I said me neither, otherwise I never would have bought a kia. And that I bought a new car so it would be dependable, and they better be glad it was a cosmetic piece that came off and not something that would endanger me. Then one of my seatbelt buckles cracked, all the way through the casing. How does that happen? Then the fuel gauge stopped working, and the gas mileage was no where near where it was supposed to be. The rpms would go crazy, pegging out when i didnt even have it floored or even going fast. It guzzles the gas like you wouldnt believe. I only get about 21 mpg, when i am supposed to get 32 or so. Then my winshield washers stopped working, yes i filled it up. And then i got receipt of a recall, no big deal. All of that haoppened within the first 2 mo of ownwership. I took it in to be fixed, and first of all they said the faring wouldnt be covered under warranty because kia requires the part, to show it actually came off. I said oh im sorry did you want me to run out on the 10 fwy at 4 am and get it. It got ran over by everybody behind me. He said he was sorry and thats just the way it was!!!! I am taking it up with coorporate. The other things got fixed, but the very week i got it back it started having problems catching gears, as if the car was in neutral or something. And the tachometer wasnt working. So like i said all little problems, nothing really dangerous. But my goodness, I dont know about you but i bought a new car to drive, not to sit at the dealer to get worked on repeatedly! They are known for their fabulous warranty, which by the way is tacked onto your loan, but what good is this warranty if they pick and choose what it covers. And if your constantly having to use it. A warranty is supposed to be more of a piece of mind in case you need it, not to be used constantly. So my suggestion is hold off on the kia. I have an 03 honda accord i bought brand new, and love it, and havent had any problems with it. I guess its worth paying for the name. I am going to trade my kia in for something dependable, probably another honda, but I am going to get completely raked on it, because it has absolutely no trade in value.
