Carrieanne,

With all due respect, hopefully the purpose of most people who post their dissatisfaction about Kia cars is to warn others about it. For potential car buyers not to fall in the same trap, and hopefully not become the next 'victim.' For one thing, Kia's designs have come a long way from when they started 10 years ago. Also, to find all the options that can be found in a fully loaded Toyota or Honda, but at 4 to 7 thousand dollars less, a Kia does sound too good to be true. And too good to be true it is. Of course, no car is perfect and even the best ones out in the market have their fair share of lemons. Unfortunately, Kia has too many of it and it has turned many customers' hopes into anger and frustration. The only way to find out if you either got your money's worth or flush them down the toilet is to own one.
I am a former owner of a Kia Spectra, and buying it turned out to be the biggest mistake I ever made. The brakes failed on me numerous times, the check engine light kept turning on, the radiator had to be replaced, and I decided to junk the car when the transmission gave up. Unlike other products like electronics, toys, clothing, and the like; if the product is either defective or not fully satisfied with it, it can always be returned or exchanged to the store it's purchased from, and either get a full refund or store credit with the original receipt. Cars on the other hand does not work that way.
Yes it is true that there are consumer protection laws that are 'supposed' to protect car buyers and owners. However, going through the procedure is easier said than done. Sure, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Dept. of Consumer Affairs. I even consulted an attorney and brought my argument to small claims court. Unfortunately, my situation happened to be one of those that 'fell through the cracks.' In the end I lost the fight, because I did not really have a case aginst the dealer or the manufacturer.
If you want to find out what it means to feel defeated, vulnerable and be at the car dealer's mercy, try owning a Kia. When you're 16 thousand dollars in debt, and making monthly payments on a vehicle you can't even enjoy, please let me know ok?

Sincerely,
Jay
