"Steve, what's wrong?" Asked Jennifer as she knelt down beside Steve.
"I don't know." Steve said through tightly clenched teeth. The pain was clearly evidence on his face. "And whatever it is is getting worse. I don't know how much more I can stand."
The two would-be muggers edged closer to the group of friends. They wanted to end this now because they were starting to get scared.
"Okay, now hand over your money and we'll let you leave peaceful like." One of the men said.
"Yeah, we don't want any trouble from you." The other man spoke up.
As they got closer, Steve's eyes rolled back in his head and he screamed with an ear piercing pitch that shattered windows nearby. The men stepped back in alarm, but it was too late. Steve got to his feet, but his face was twisted in pain and his eyes looked as if they were glazed over. He stretched out his left hand and said something in a language that no one could understand. Then, out of nowhere, a bolt of pure energy shot out from his finger tips and struck the men in the chest. The blast lifted them off their feet and hurled them a hundred feet away through the air. They landed in a crumpled heap and lay there smoldering from their chest. Steve lowered his arm and proceeded to pass out and fall to the ground.
"Let's get out of here before they decided to wake up." Todd said as he picked Steve up and placed him over his shoulder. They all ran for the car and piled in and slammed the doors shut. Todd put Steve in back with Jennifer and Julie rode up front. The tires squealed as Todd sped out of the parking lot. He was not wasting any time getting away from there.
"If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. What the hell just happened?" Todd asked, more to himself than anyone else. He already knew that neither one of the girls knew what happened either. So letting it go, Todd drove back to their little town and dropped the girls off at home. He then proceeding back to his house, where he hoped to get some answers from Steve. Steve just sat in the passenger sit the entire ride home starring out the window and saying nothing at all.
Upon pulling up the driveway, Steve seemed to brighten up a bit when he saw the house. But then his face grew glum again. He looked like he was thinking over something in his mind very hard. He bit his lower lip and gazed intently out of the passenger window. Todd just ignored Steve and parked the car in the garage. He and Steve walked up the path to the backdoor of the house. Todd turned to Steve and stopped him before they reached the door.
"What the hell happened in T.C.?" Todd asked Steve. "You haven't been the same since. That was some freaky shit, man. I mean, you had bolts of energy shooting from your fingertips. Last I knew, the Emperor in Star Wars was the last person I saw do that."
"I honestly don't know, Todd." Steve said with a far off tone to his voice. "But I have to tell you something. The other night, remember that crate that arrived from my parents?"
"Yeah, I remember it." Todd stated.
"Well, there was this medallion in it. And that package I got from the old man at Hocus Pocus. It was an old book, older than any I've ever seen. I didn't open the book because I wasn't sure about it. But the weird thing is, the book cover has a carved image in it that identically matches the medallion my parents sent home." Steve rambled.
"Man, that just plain weird." Todd said.
"That's not the half of it." Steve said. He then explained to Todd the dream he had had the night before and about the garden and his destiny.
"Wow, I don't know what to say, Steve." Todd said. "So you think that the medallion and/or book had something to do with what happened in T.C. tonight?"
"That's my theory, yes." Steve said as they approached the back door.
