Given that every single suggestion for "less intrusive" government over the last 30 years would require the taxpayer to be mandated to buy something, whether it be a pension or whatever, and that most of these suggestions came from the right, including several from standing members of the court, it was highly unlikely to the point of impossible that they'd rule against the healthcare act. Don't be surprised when there's a host of "mandate to buy" pensions, schooling, child whatever and so forth coming from the Republican side in the next Congress.
