Bette Davis, one of the best actresses of her age or any age, is known in "The Letter" for shooting her lover in the back. And what is our Amanda known for? She is known for seducing and murdering a scout or boy scout, while he is in the tub in "Lair of the White Worm." Yet there is not a person, unless it was the actor portraying the part, who would take the place of Bette's lover in "The Letter." While there is hardly a person, male or female, that would not tkae the place of the scout or boy scout in "Lair of the White Worm."
I must also say something about Chris Pitt, who played the role of the scout or boy scout, Kevin, in the film. There have been some questions about his acting ability, Indeed, Ken Russell, who directed the scene, said Kevin should have been drowned after the performance he gave in the scene. But, I put it that that scene works, because of his ability to play two such contradictory characters in the same character. The lustful teen, who wants "it," and the shy virgin, who is scared of "it."
Until next week . . . Enjoy!
