"The U.K. in late November . . . rainy, grey, and cold."
You got that right, Jon. Having been there in November myself. And it is even worst in January, having been there in January, as well. But, if one keeps to London or the area south of there, it is doable anytime of the year. Only, when you go farther north, and the farther north you go, the worst the weather becomes.
"My wife was pregnant."
Congratulations, Jon. You did it. And I want you to know you got a good woman there, and I want you to tell her that. Not every woman would follow their man half way around the world, especially when she's pregnant, so their man could eye the competition.
". . . about 20 million people saw Amanda every week in 'LA Law.' If every performance of 'Hedda Gabler' sold out, it would probably be close to 40,000 people tops that would see her."
Jon, I think this is a misunderstanding of British sensibilites. Ask Laura (And it is good to hear from you again, Laura. I hope we hear more from you.) but, an British actor who appears on television--and this might be a slight exaggeration--is slumming. The only true stage for a British actor is the stage. Which is probably why most of them can outact most American actors. Thus, it is better to be seen by 40,000 people on the stage, then 20,000,000 people on television.
Until next week and "Now It Can Be Told, Page 2." Enjoy!
P.S. I would encourage anybody who wants to write to her, to write to her. One never knows when one might get lucky and receive a reply back. Let me see, if I can come up with an address.
