Subject: Who said the "leaders" could be the only people working on the page?
In reply to: Marx 's message, "Lert Me try to summerize this in an understandable manner" on 15:56:22 09/10/99 Fri

Back when I had web access, I gave it to just about anyone who asked for it. Helrick had about 5 updates for me a week until I just said "You know what, why I don't I give you the password and you can do it."

And what you're now saying is that the housemasters now have to know .html? Aww crap, we don't have 6 people who can do .html that well. I can barely do it at all. Marx, I got news for ya, you simply do. not. have. the people needed for you're plan. You're talking 10-15 people per house, with 6 houses? Dude, we'll be lucky to have 10-15 people when this thing gets going. I'm really not trying to be rude, bud...please don't interpret when I'm saying like that. And I'm not say "If it aint broke don't fix it." I'm saying "If you don't have a better way, stick with what ya got."

You're system works perfectly on paper, but if it ever works in practice, watch the news. There will probably be something about the temperature in Hell being 32 degrees. And yea, my system calls for people working half-heartedly on the webpage, because I expect people to put thier real life affairs in order before signing on and fiddling with the webpage. Dispute me on this one if you like, but there's really no way to dispute the fact that real life comes first.

And as for decisions being made as soon as possible....eesh, gimme a break. Again, I'm not trying to be rude, but this is a clan. It's nothing more, and nothing less. My life wont end if some council member isn't around to vote on whether or not members are allowed to own pink teddy bears. And, believe it or not, but most of the decisions the council votes on, are about as important.

Houses are gonna be essentially the same thing anyway. Why? because as I said moments ago, if you restrict housemaster status to someone who knows .html well enoguh to make a "cool looking" webpage, what's gonna happen? You wont nessecarily get the best housemasters. Either that, or you get housemasters who have to spent significantly more time doing code, meaning they've got less time to handle thier other duties.

I'm telling ya, the 3-man system works best. The more people you put into the mix, the more complicated it is. The more complicated it is, the less likely that things will actually get done. A clan shouldn't be centered on the webpage anyway. The webpage should be secondary. Only reason I ever checked the page was to do updates. It was the community that I liked. I liked talking to the people and playing games. It didn't matter whether or not the webpage was "pretty." If we have our entire leadership working on code the whole time...yea, we'll have a pretty website, and we'll have lots of members who we aren't playing games with on-line. It's the game that makes a clan, not the website.

You need a simple form of government, a webpage is nice. Good lookin' doesn't hurt, but anymore than normal effort put into it, and something's up.

Anyway, I have a rush event to get too, I'll finish this later.
