DRAFT LETTER October Fifth Association
C/o
Date.

A Chara, Re: Full Status Now Campaign (FSNC)

Owing mainly to recent developments in Belmarsh, Maghaberry and Portlaoise, the October Fifth (1968 Civil Rights Veterans & Supporters) Association recently focused on a number of issues. These included the need for segregation in HMP Maghaberry, rights to a more flexible compassionate parole system, individual health needs, expanding educational opportunities, physical safety and adverse treatment of visitors. Other areas of concern would have been considered if further information has been available from individual prisoners and/or their relatives.

As a result it was agreed to establish a FULL STATUS NOW CAMPAIGN (FSNC). A short Action-List was drawn up. These items were viewed as a matter of urgency, and were listed as follows:

1. As a non-party group the civil rights veterans will highlight our independence, as this may help to bring together diverse elements on the basis of basic humanitarian concerns.

2. Our immediate focus should be on health and safety.

3. CR. Veterans should sponsor a meeting of
concerned relatives and their supporters, initially in
the NorthWest, to further the FSNCampaign.

4. Other ideas:

a) Create an e-mail address – this is now available to relatives & supporters
b) Canvass the idea of a periodic newsletter for relatives without PCs.
c) Create a new voy.com FSNC forum as a matter of urgency – now functioing.
d) Create a Full Status Now badge/button - already in the pipeline.
e) Write directly to all known prisoners, affiliated and/or 'independent'.
f) That communication would invite the views of prisoners themselves, seek reports from each prison, and any other matters deemed relevant by themselves, immediate relatives or supporters.

Our OFA discussion document, which led to the founding of the FSNC commented:

"It is the belief of many that such a campaign is long overdue, but can only be built from the grass roots, upon whomits success or failure will depend. The relatives we
believe should form the vanguard of any mobilization
or organizational structure. All we can do at this stage,
is to act as a spring-board, to promote, and lobby for, the FSNC proposal.".

We cordially invite your response to the above, for without some measure of support from those directly or indirectly concerned, the FSNC is unlikely to make any further progress. We are also extending an invite to the loved ones of political prisoners to establish contact, either via the above address, or by e-mail via fsncampaign@hotmail.com Communications will be on a one-to-one basis, unless sharing is mutually agreed.

Is Misé,
Lé Méas Mhor,

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX(Mrs.),
Asst. Hon. Secretary, Oct. 5th. Assoc.
1st patron FSNC
