I could attach some examples from the 80+ e-mails I get everday but I thought I would expalim them instead. I have several things that have made e-mail a challenge in my workplace and I put together a document of my own to my departments to try to curb some of the things I think make e-mail unproductive. Several key points to my rules were:
Never try to resolve conflist by e-mail, pick up the phoe or get up from your desk and go see the person.
Don't use e-mail if you are expaecting an immeadiate answer, use voice mail.
Forwarding a string of more than 3-4 e-mails is unacceptable. People can't follow the subject and there may be something in that string that is dangerous to forward.
Make sure that the e-mail is only addressed to one person if the e-mail asks questions. If there are more that one addressees, no one is sure who is responsible for answering the question.

The book makes several good points about format and especially vocabulary. I found the segment on how phrases can be condenced to be perticularly interesting.
