When others use communication to cause harm to us, there is no doubt that it hurts. We probably have all had conversations, whether it was in person, over the phone or via e-mail that that resulted in ill feelings. While a majority of the time, these incidents are the result of major misunderstandings or miscommunications, some are not. Sometimes the person giving the message is trying to manipulate our thoughts and feelings so that we are the result of some scheme the sender is plotting or actively involving us in.

When we personally use rhetorical communication to harm or take advantage of others, eventually it is soon discovered out by the receiver and could thus harm and hinder one's original plans or relationships with the sender or others and thus cause us to endure a situation that could have a disastrous outcome, whether it's personal or business.

I definitely feel that through an understanding of communication we could begin to craft our messages to others so that we could create conflict resolution instead of creating more conflict. By studying the techniques that should be used in communication and how we can use these techniques to communicate effectively, we can disarm negative situations before they begin. We will be able to spot certain communication scenarios that usually end up in conflict and know how to turn those type of situations around and turn them into something positive. Thus, we will be able to communicate effictively to those who have an impact on us in our business and personal lives in a positive manner.

Also, by learning effective communication, we are able to accomplish our goals in a more efficient manner. We won't have to slave over what the best approach in communicating with others are because we will already know. We too will be able to influence others by our communication style. Soon those who we communicate with on a regular basis will begin to see that we are accomplishing our goals and how successful we will be when we consistently are able to communicate our thoughts, plans to to others in an effective manner and produce good results that benefit all involved.
