"Come on Holly. We have to got to Timeless Farm, NOW!" I said.
"But why Mommy?" She asked.
"Just get into the car, I'll tell you on the way there." I said.
We drove to Timeless farm and I had to explain to Holly for to billionth time why we where going to another barn. I pulled into the parking lot and we got out. I walked into the barn and spotted Dana.
"Hi Dana! How are you?' I asked.
"Good. Joey and Jonathan are getting ready for their lesson." she said.
"Ok, that sounds good. Is there a specific ring you want me to use?" I asked.
"No." she said.
"Ok, thanks. I'm going to meet Joey and Jonathan." I said.
I walked up to another barn where Dana said I would find the boys. I walked into the alise and saw 2 boys tacking up 2 beautiful horses.
"Hi, are you guys Joey and Jonathan?" I asked.
"Yep." The eldest one replied.
"Hi, I'm Meghan and I'll be giving you 2 lessons." I said.
"Hi, i'm holly." said Holly.
They said hi and finished tacking up their horses. Joey showed me the hunter/jumper ring ans we went there to have our lesson. I walked into the middle of the ring with the boys and made Holly sit in the bleachers. They mounted and
walked to the rail. While they walked I lowered the jumps so that Jonathan could jump. "Ok, you may both start trotting." I said. The boys had good equitation. "Jonathan, check your diagonal." I said. He looked down and sat 2 beats and resumed posting. "That looks good Joey. Try to sit up a little more though." I said. They trotted awhile longer. "Ok, Jonathan walk,and Joey canter." I said.
Joey nudged Mr. Snazzy into the canter. "Try to get the motion out of your lower leg Joey." I said. "Jonathan keep your heels down even when your walking. " I said. "Ok, Joey, do a simple change down the diagonal of the ring." I said. joey did the change perfectly. "Good Job." I said,"Now you may walk." Joey's transition went beautifully too. "Jonathan, you may canter Thunderbolt." I said. Jonathan sat up and cantered. He got the right lead and everything. "Good, Jonathan. Keep going." I said as he pasted me. " Jonathan, we're going to do what's called a simple change down the diagonal of the ring. When you get toward the rail ore, make Thunderbolt trot and then pick up the correct canter lead." I instructed. Jonathan did well with the change. He then cantered on around the ring abit more. "Ok, let him walk Jonathan." I said,"That was good."
"Joey, drop your stirrups and let's see a posting trot without stirrups." I said. "Ok, this may not be pretty though." he said. He did really well posting without stirrups. "Good Joey, how about a sitting trot." I said. The sitting trot went better than the posting trot. "Jonathan, sitting trot." I said. "Joey, heels down, hands up. You may walk and pick up your stirrups." I said.
"thumbs up Jonathan. Try to keep your hands low and steady."
I said. 'Joey, let him canter again." I said. "Posting trot Jonathan." I instructed. Joey cantered around the ring a few times and then i told him to walk. I then told Jonathan to canter. i was impressed by how well the boys rode. "Ok, jonathan walk, Joey come over to me." I said. Joey rode over to me. "That was good. You have excellent transitions.
Now, we're going to trot in canter out that outside line.
i know it's less than 2 ft, but it's a warm up fence. We'll jump higher after Jonathan has jumped. Ok?" i said.
"Ok." Joey said. He rode over to the rail and began to trot. He looked ahead to the fence and sat deeply in the saddle. then, he bent forward over the fence and sta up and looked on to the second. Then, he bent over the second fence. "Good Joey. Stay there and let your brother do the same thing. Jonathan, trot in canter out the line Joey just did." I said. He trotted and eyed up the line. "Sit back Jonathan. wait for the jump." I said as he jumped a little ahead. 1,2,3,4,5,6 strides and thunderbolt and him cleared the second fence. "Joey, you can do that line and then canter up the single." I said. He did all the jumps perfectly. "Jonathan, do just that line, not the single." I said. Jonathan's timing was better this time around. "Good Jonathan. Joey, trot in canter out the diagonal, the trot in canter out the other outside." I said. Again, his fences were flawless. "Good job. jonathan do, outside,single,diagonal,outside. canter it all." I said.
Jonathan's jumps were nice too. "Ok, jonathan you can cool Thunderbolt out. Good job. Joey, you can jump the course Jonathan just did." I said. Joey's course was good, except for one fence. Mr. Snazzy chipped at the single. I went out and raised the fences up to between. 3 and 4 ft. "Ok, joey, do diagonal in a 5,outside in a 4, single,and the other outside in a 6." I instructed. Joey picked up his canter and headed for the first fence, a 3'3" gate. He cleared it nicely. He looked at the next fence, a 4ft natrual. He finished the line and got the right strides too. He did a flying lead change and looked to the next line. It went beautifully. Next, was the single. Mr. Snazzy pricked his ears forward and cleared it with room to spare. the final line was nice too. He did a closing circle and walked."Very good joey! We're going to stop there today. cool him out." I said. I walked with the boys back to the barn and watched them untack. They hosed their horses off and grazed them.
"Bye, so you Weds." I said. They said bye and holly and i went home.
