Date Posted: 14:19:25 11/22/02 Fri Jessie, Maggie and Michelle Trail Ride Tara arrives and they all finish tacking up their horses. then they mount and walk around the ring a few times, warming up. Tara rides Shining with them. They finish warming up, then head down the trails. Tara coaches them on their positions and works on their control of their horses. For most of the lesson, they are perfectly under control and their rides do a good job with him, but when they canter, Satina gets strong and Jessie has a hard time keeping her to the back of the group. They work on a passing excersise and talk about some ways to control horses in the open as they walk back to the farm. Mikki and Hannah Cross Country Mikki and Hannah are completely warmed up by the time Tara is ready for their lesson "Today we are going to go cross country" Tara tells them. Alison agrees to let her ride Maverick to go with them cross country. A few minutes later, she leads the bay morgan pony to the ring, mounts and walks him around a few times before they all head to the cross country course. They trot out, and Tara coaches them on their positions. when they get to the course, Tara has them canter some circles and figure 8's to work on control, then she points out a course for them to do. "Warm up over the 2'9 fallen log, a few times, then your course will be the high end of the water jump, heading to the 3' coop, then to the hay bales and then do the 3'6 zig zag, heading to the ditch, then the 3'9 stone wall and end your course with the 4' log pile." Mikki takes his turn first. Hannah trots Missy in circles, keeping her warmed up. Mikki rides a confident course, keeping HC at a bold gallop and soaring over the fences. He circles HC several times to slow him down and HC bucks excitedly. "That was a beautiful course, but you must slow HC down a little and remind him that you are in charge, do not let him rush around completely out of control or you are risking injuring both yourself and him." Tara tells him. Mikki takes the course again, this time slowing HC with firm half halts before every jump. Tara nods approvingly, then turns to Hannah. "Ok, Hannah, your turn" she tells Hannah. Hannah rides the course less than confidently and Missy refuses the log pile. Hannah circles back and gives the jump another half-hearted approach. Missy skids to a stop right before the jump and Hannah tries several more times unsuccessfully. "Be more confident with your approach!" Tara calls to her. Hannah gives Missy a firmer approach and gives her a firm kick right at the takeoff point for the jump. Missy sails over the jump and lands bucking. Hannah flies over head head and lands hard on the ground. Missy gallops off and HC rears nervously. Tara dismounts and hurries to Hannah. Mikki trots HC in the direction Missy galloped off to. Hannah gets up and brushes herself off. When Mikki returns Tara makes Hannah get back on and take the jump again. then the end for the day. by the time they get back to the barn, Hannah's new bruises begin to show. she untacks Missy and goes up to the house to relax for awhile [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
