Date Posted: 17:55:53 12/02/02 Mon Dana came right back to drop off Jewel and Jennie. I brought Jewel to the grooming stall, and let her tack up Maggie. I took Jennie to the broodmare stall, and showed her Honor. I let her tack Honor up as well, and told the girls that I would meet them in the arena. Jewel and Jennie walked into the arena a few minutes later, followed by the horses they were riding, Maggie and Honor. They shortened their stirrups to the right length, and tightened the girth how it shuld be. Jennie hopped on Honor from the ground easily, since she was pretty small, but Jewel used the mounting block to get on her 16.3hh mare. The riders walked the horse and pony around the arena for awhile, and then waited for me to give a direction. "Let's go into a posting trot!" I called. Jewel and Jennie shortened up their reigns, and clicked Honor and Maggie into a trot. Both of them got off the diagnol a few times, and once they had to push their heels down a little. They posted fine, and then I told them to practice a sitting trot. They did just as well, except they giggled with me since they were accedently posting slightly. Then, I told the girls to slow down to a trot for a minute. They walked around again, pointing out and giggling at the silly kittens and puppies romping around the arena. Ashley walked into the arena shortly and came in laughing with us. "Let's jump into a canter!" I called Jewel and Jennie clicked and sqeezed until Honor and Maggie were cantering smoothly. "Heels Down!" I said a few times. I watched the horses bounce around the arena, with advanced riders bouncing along on top. They went around, not expecting me to say...... "HALT!" Jewel and Jennie seemed a little shocks, but came down to a halt, managing their horses to stand their ground. Grins came across Jewel,Jennie and Ashley's face, and mine also, as I told the riding girls to walk on. After they had cantered another time with the same content, I told them to walk while I set up the jumps. Ashley rubbed her hands with delight, waiting for the jumping show to begin. (lol) "Ok, Jennie you start the coarse, and Jewel wait in the center for a minute" I said. Jennie set off on Honor, approaching the first jump. Ashley and Jewel watched in amazment as she cleared the first 3' jump. I beamed, and watched as she cleared the 2', 3' and 2'6 as well. I also worked dressage with Jewel for awhile, judging her horse and her carefully. I let them dismount soon after, and told them that they could go back to the stalls to brush down the horses.
