Date Posted: 17:54:26 12/13/02 Fri I led Wishful Thinking into the arena & halted him. After checking my girth, I mounted up.I looked around the arena & sighed.Winter was SO boring. No cross country, no trail riding, you couldn't even use the outdoor arenas.I squeezed Wishful with my legs & he walked forward. It was a good thing I was short, or I wouldn't be able to fit onto a 13.3 hand pony like Wishful. After walking the pony a few laps, I squeezed him lightly & Wishful picked up a trot.It felt so jarring compared to my warmbloods trot.I pushed my heels down into the stirrups a bit more & picked up a posting trot. That was much less bouncy than a sitting trot.I trotted Wishful in both directions for a while before getting Wishful to canter.Like usual, the chestnut pony bucked once during the first lap cantering, & then settled down. After a few mins. cantering, I slowed Wishful to a walk.I dismounted & lowered the jumps of the hunter course to 2'-9".I got back on Wishful & then totted him towards one of the 2 diagonals in the middle.Wishful popped over the little jump & landed in a canter.I patted him on the neck & did the other diagonal in the same fashion. Then I decided to jump the lines with him.I cantered the Welsh pony in a courtesy circle & headed him towards the first jump of the green line.Wishful neatly jumped the first fence, tucking up his knees evenly, making a nice bascule over the jump.I counted the strides towards the oxer, 1, 2, 3, 4, & Wishful lifted off the ground & jumped over the oxer.I slowed Wishful back down to a walk & did the other line with him. Then I started the course, first cantering a courtesy circle.Wishful jumped the green single nicely, & gotthe right amount of paces to the green oxer, which he cleared faultlessly.I made a nice, wide turn with Wishful to the tan & burgandy striped diagonal brushbox.Wishful jumped the fence with his knees raised & dead even.I got Wishful to make a flying lead change as we made another nice turn to the purple line.He popped over the purple single & cantered on to the purple oxer.He chipped his stride this time, to get over the oxer without knocking a rail.I made a flying lead change with Wishful as we turned to the sky blue colored diagonal jump.He was not being very flexible with this turn, so I used leg on him.We jumped the sky blue diagonal a little aways from the middle of it, but we cleared it, so I cantered Wishful on & finished the course with another courtesy circle. Then I did the course one more time with Wishful. This time, I was ready for the turn to the sky blue diagonal & got my chestnut gelding to make the turn perfectly. Then I jumped the course with him in the other direction before walking him out.I led the pony back to his stall & untacked him.Wishful hadn't even broken a sweat, so I put his winter blanket back on & gave him a horse cookie. Then I took Wishful's bridle, & my saddle back to the tack room. After putting that away, I walked over to You Wish's stall to give her a good grooming & a treat before going up to the house...
