Date Posted: 17:08:36 01/01/03 Wed *~*Snow Flurry*~*  Jess Swung into the saddle and Flurry immediately broke into a trot. Jess slowed her down to a steady walk and continued with a warm-up. Flurry refused to pick up a right lead canter on a circle. Jess Sat deep in the saddle, slid her outside leg back and kicked sharply. Flurry, Startled, sulkily picked up a canter and executed a 20 meter circle! Finally they finished their warm-up and Jess asked for a collected canter. Flurry tossed her head indignantly and then broke into an elegant and perky collection. After a circle a Jess and Flurry executed a perfect Flying lead change. Jess then asked subtly for an extension! Flurry continued on her way ignoring the signal. “Well if you are insisting on being a complete but head” Jess said “We’ll just have to do this the hard way”. Jess sat back and gave Flurry a good pop on the rump with her dressage whip. Flurry started and then accepted her role as horse not boss and extended beautifully. They worked on collections & extensions at all gaits & then did a few turn on the forehands etc. Jess trotted Flurry up center line and halted. She mad e a professional salute & then continued with her test! Flurry ran both the tests they were practicing with ease accept for picking up the wrong lead on one of her canter circles. As Jess saluted and walked toward the rail she heard polite clapping from the bottom of the ring. She looked down and saw a man standing their in khaki pants & a Sweatshirt saying “Townsend Stables” On it under the picture of a jumping horse. “Uncle Ben” Jess exclaimed Leaping off of Flurry and running over to him “What are you doing here?”. “Well I thought I’d pay your mother a visit” He smiled down at his niece his eyes twinkling He looked at Flurry and his eyes widened “Is this the results of that scrawny filly you were training when I came her a year ago?” He asked. “Yep” Jess said her eyes shining with pride. Ben was over to Flurry in a flash. He examined the silky coat slender legs and excellent confirmation all the while making remarks on the beauty of the young Saddlebred mare! “Jess…” He said “I am IMPRESSED”. “Thank you I will take that as a compliment” Jess replied, sounding like a pompous old judge. They both burst out laughing and walked toward the barn to un-tack Flurry.
