Date Posted: 18:21:44 01/17/03 Fri *Kelsey takes Tori out of his stall and careufully grooms him until his black coat shines. Then she tacks him up and leads him to the indoor ring. There was still a few inches of snow on the ground and Tori playfully prances through it. Kelsey opens the door and leads Tori in, then tightens his girth and swings into his saddle. The stallion breaks into a slow jog, lightly pulling the reins and Kelsey relaxes her fingers and tightens her back. "Tori, walk" she tells him calmly. Tori snorts and slows to a walk, tossing his head every few strides. Slowly he settles down and gets to work. Kelsey trots and canters him, working on circles and figure 8's, then to finish off the session does 5 minutes of "long and low" with him, asking him to drop his head and lengthen his stride. The excersise would strengthen his topline and make him better at both dressage and jumping. Then she cools him out, untacks and grooms him, then blankets him and turns him out. Next she brings What I Got out of the paddock. Again the mare is spirited in the crossties, but as soon as she enters the indoor, her manners are prefect. Kelsey works on walk-trot-walk transitions with her for 15 minutes, then asks her to canter. it takes a few tries for the mare to get the correct lead. Kelsey realizes that she is very unbalanced at the canter, so she only canters her down the long side of the ring then asks for a trot and repeats the excersise until the mare's canter is more balanced. Then she canters her once around the whole ring and does the same excersise in the other direction. The mare had much better balance going that way and Kelsey cools her out after she canters her, then takes care of her and turns her out again. After she is done with What I Got she brings Legacy in from the paddock, grooms her and leads her around the indoor at the walk and trot. "This is good practice for track this spring" Kelsey tells the filly breathlessly. They jog several more laps around the ring, then Kelsey cools Legacy out, grooms her and blankets her and turns her out. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
