Date Posted: 17:05:52 02/14/03 Fri *Kelsey gets Tori from the paddock and brings him to the barn. "Ok Tori, theres not much more time to fool around now. Shay is taking us to compete at Spruce Meadows in a few weeks!" Kelsey tells the black stallion. Tori snorts and throws his head, then nips at her playfully. Kelsey rolls her eyes and gets the stallion's jumping tack out of his locker. She puts a clean red saddle pad on his back, then a bounce pad, then his saddle. She puts his breastplate on, then puts the girth on. Then she gets his bridle and puts it on and fastens the noseband and throatlatch. She tightens his girth one more time, then leads him to the indoor riding ring where a course of jumps was set up. The jumps were 3'6"-4', although Tori had not ever been jumped 4', Kelsey needed to speed up his training so he would be ready for Spruce Meadows. She warms him up carefully, both on the flat and over some 2' fences. Then she starts the course. She heads up to a 3'9 vertical first. Tori powerfully clears the fence and canters on to the next jump, a 3'6" oxer, about 4' wide. he soars over the jump and canters bravely to the next fence, a 4' gate. he jumps it, but raps the pole with his hind legs. The pole crashes to the ground. Kelsey doesnt look back, but canters to the next fences, a 3 fence combination, first a 3'6 bounce, then the last fence was set at 4'. Tori clears all 3 fences this time. Then they head to the final fences, 2 set at 3'9 and 2 set at 4'. Tori clears all the fences easily. At the end of the course, Kelsey circles Tori until he is calm again, then she dismounts and sets the gate again and takes Tori over it several times, until he clears it easily. Then she takes him on a trail ride to cool the stallion out. When she gets back to the barn, she untacks him and gives him a good grooming, then puts his blanket on and turns him out. Then she goes through his locker, looking to see what needed to be replaced for Spruce Meadows. Saddle walks up behind her. "Getting ready for Spruce Meadows already?" Saddle asks. "Yeah" Kelsey replies. "Well, i was thinking since this is such a big show we should get Tori a new tack set and a nice tack trunk, yours is sort of beaten up" Saddle tells her. "That would be great!" Kelsey replies. "Ok, i'll take you to the tack store sometime this week. Maybe Shayla's daughter would like to come, too." Saddle says. "That would be cool" Kelsey replies.
