Children couldn't escape the realities of those days. They were heard singing this song a few days after drunken RUC & B'Specials invaded St. Columb's Wells on the night of the Burntollet march, in early Jan. '69. The People's Democracy had managed, in spite of vicious attacks along the 90-mile walk from Belfast, to reach Derry's Guildhall Square. There they were met by a massive crowd expressing solidarity with the marchers, mainly Queen's University students. Many of them received hospital treatment, and some were cared for in the homes of local working-class families.
