I don't think that, hundreds of years ago, hunting by local people in Africa and Asia used to be degrading to the environment. It became harmful because of the later activities of imperialists who were hunting animals for pleasure and not for food, and encouraged the local people to kill animals for money.

Anyways, I know that in some places in america people are encouraged to hunt dears because there are lots of them crossing the roads etc... I won't comment on that. However the chicken in the farm are overpopulated because of man, they wouldn't be in such a big number in the wild because theu would be hunted by predators...

About the "pests", I think there are many alternative ways to prevent a place from being infested, like cleaning, proper conserving of food, non-use of sugar etc... You can also raise some pets like cats, etc... And the use of pesticides does not only kill the pests; pesticides are very harmful to the human health, and the environment. And that's a main reason for encouraging organic agriculture.
