In reply to: chadi 's message, "You didn't curse me? You said "all living things have consciousness, silly....". It seems that someone like you has no consciousness of his cursing. But anyways, I advise you to open your philosophy textbook and read the chapter about "consciousness" or the chapter about "language". then you would be able to read my posts, but not respond to them of course...." on 20:59:57 12/06/02 Fri

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines consciousness as follows:

Main Entry: con·scious·ness
1 a : the quality or state of being aware especially of something within oneself b : the state or fact of being conscious of an external object, state, or fact c : AWARENESS; especially : concern for some social or
political cause
2: the state of being characterized by sensation, emotion, volition, and thought : MIND
3 : the totality of conscious states of an individual
4 : the normal state of conscious life
5 : the upper level of mental life of which the person is aware as contrasted with unconscious processes

Since animals have awareness, sensation, emotion, volition, and thought, they too are conscious, according to definitions 1c and 2.

First, what's wrong with my spelling of "consciousness"? Second, you'd better watch the documentary movie "the animal mind" on a TV station called "Animal Planet". (NT)chadi15:41:45 12/07/02 Sat
