It was said in the Animatrix that the Machines fled to their own city (01) and built a civilization. Their economy prospered because, for one, they 'did all the thinking' for humans--supplying them with technology. Humans could no longer compete and became stagnant.

I find it ridiculous, then that humans were able to 'scorch' the sky during the last attempt to destroy the machines. Even more ridiculous, the machines could not repair the sky in the hundreds of years they existed and evolved. Before watching Revolutions, i was eagerly anticipated a wonderful revelation that would shed light on the deep questions the first two installments of the trilogy provoked. I was very dissatisfied with Revolutions.

We got to finally meet AI in Revolutions...yeah, a whole two minutes and a few lines of dialogue. The spiked machine spoke like a big bratty bitch. What a joke. So much for AI. We get no real interaction.
