ah, but Neo really only chooses option 2 because he has been touched by his love of Trinity, whereas the other 5 weren't, and they weren't because the Architect said so. So the choice was made for selfish reasons, not to save Zion, but to save Trinity. Another miscalculation on behalf of KFC man, the 'grotesqueties of humanity' - Selfishness, or love for another being more important to Neo than the potential destruction of Humanity.

but then again, the architect did point this out to Neo, almost goading him into making that choice.... hmm interesting. also interesting was the architect's disgust when Neo named the 'mother of the matrix' as 'The Oracle'.
