yo jeff, good post, has trembled my mind too and I think it's a possibility.

but you mention it yourself, how does link get there? assuming he really is a freeborn (from the real world if there is such a thing) why do the machines know about him at all?
and, if the last part of reloaded is just another matrix-loop created to mislead neo and his pals, how does smith/bane get there? an illusion too? again, how would the machines know smith 'copied' himself onto bane..?
and remember: morpheus is back on the neb already when neo is having his chat with the architect, which would indicate the machines/the architect knew beforehand that neo would choose the left door.. (I personally think they DID know this, after all, the most predictable human response is denial...and neo prooves to be an anomaly until the very end)

damn, the more I try to figure the plot out, the more confused I get... probably exaclty what the W brothers intention was...
we'll have no other choice but to spend money on two or three cinema entries for revolutions as well... ;-)
