Subject: Matrix survives?
In reply to: paramecium 's message, "interesting but....." on 22:35:34 05/27/03 Tue

If there is an online game being released next year, that does not necessarily mean that the Matrix will survive Revolutions. More than likely, businesses will continue to capitalize on this whole Matrix concept for as long as they can. However, i do believe that the Matrix may survive Revolutions.

Consider that:
1)billions of people are connected to the Matrix
2)if the Matrix is destroyed immediately, all those connected would die--unless they were freed before the destruction (if that makes sense)
3)if those billions of people connected were freed at once, how would they receive medical attention? What would they eat? Where would they live? This possibility does not seem feasible given that there are simply not enough resources (food, shelter, human labor, medical supplies, etc.etc.)

I'm sure a more comprehensive analysis of the movie would allow you or me to modify these obvious considerations. They are simply part of my common sense reaction. With these considerations in place, it might be easy to accept the idea that the Matrix will survive Revolutions...but then who wants THAT to happen? I offer two wacky reason for this (based on the three considerations) followed by three endings that i think may be possible.

Reasons Matrix survives Revolutions:
1.)Zion could be intentionally created by the Machines as way of systematically establishing a coexistence between humans and machines. Maybe more humans (in the matrix)are dying than we are led to believe, or perhaps the machines realized that humans could serve a better purpose if they were out of the Matrix and into the real world. (I don't have an explanation, but it could be revealed in Revolutions.) The problem for the machines is that rogue programs try to gain power in different versions of the Matrix, and some spread like a virus all the way into the machines and eventually making them destroy Zion. This may be what Agent Smith is doing. Smith knows that if, eventually, humans are gradually freed (sent to Zion)then there will be no need for the Matrix program. Thus, in order to have power, Smith must control the Matrix and not allow Zion to exist because it represents all hope for coexistence. The culprits could be rogue programs like Smith--and not the actual Matrix program itself (and those machines not infected by Smith). Perhaps Smith needs to use Neo's powers for something and that is why the Sentinel creatures stopped when Neo put his hand up. Smith had infected them and altered their programming so as to avoid destroying Neo for the time being. Yet, you may be thinking "How is it that Neo could 'sense' the Sentinel squiddies? I don't know. It may have to do something with Neo entering Smith's body (program) in the first movie, which enabled both of them to somehow know more about each other's intentions etc. Since Smith has the ability to control a human's mind in the real world (Bane), maybe Neo is now to some degree able to influence his own mind in the real world. For example, Neo might be able to do KUNG FU in the real world, but in the case of him 'stopping' the Sentinel squiddies, Neo has enabled his real world mind to accept the fact that what he knows about codes and programs in the Matrix is connected to the machines in the real world. Thus, the stopping of the squiddies was nearly a coincidence of two events: Neo making a connection between real world and Smith/Matrix. Smith reprogramming squiddies to avoid killing Neo for the time being. (Then maybe the squiddies should have just turned around and headed the other way...who knows?)
As for what the Architect said to Neo--maybe the Architect told Neo what Neo needed to hear. The Architect needs Neo to destroy Smith so that the Matrix continues, Zion lives, and humans are gradually integrated into a coexistence with the machines.
2.)This one is short. Neo infects the Matrix (as Smith had done)and reprograms it as he sees fit--realizing the impracticality of freeing everyone at once, or the immediate destruction of the Matrix.

How the trilogy might end:
1.)Zion is saved and the Matrix will go on at the end of Revolutions so as to systematically integrate humans into the real world as resources can support newbies.
2.) The Matrix will be destroyed immediately and all humans connected to the Matrix will die, and Zion becomes the starting point for human civilization.
3.) Zion survives, the Matrix is destroyed, many of the humans connected to the Matrix survive because Neo was able to hack into the Matrix (before he destroyed it of course), alter the machines' programs so that they help the freed humans. How?--I think that in the Matrix, Neo, like a virus, can spread into the machines' mainframe or whatever and program them to help humans. Then, Neo Destroys the Matrix and humans are freed. I like this ending the best.

Sure, there are many possible ways the trilogy can end, but there is only one way that it WILL end. I cannot wait until Novemember!

I know this post is long. Thanks for reading.
