Actually when you look at both of his hands, some blood dripped from the first hand to the second.

And the package that the first guy is bringing back with him to Zion is actually a disk containing information on where to find the Oracle probably. That's the reason why Morpheus wanted to leave a ship outside of Zion (in case the Oracle would try to contact them (since in a previous scene you saw Neo visiting the Oracle's appartment and finding it empty)).

And as soon as the disk is given to Neo, they depart again to meet with the Oracle. So that's definitely what was in the package.
