其實，我對中西方在科學發展的歷史，沒有深刻的認識。
我印象中記得，好像因為哥白尼堅持地球環繞太陽的學說，以至跟教庭對抗，我覺得這是推動‘打破權威支持的舊理論，尊重探索印證的真理’的例子。
中國也有勇敢的人為真理犧牲，但這種真理只是包括‘忠義’之類的儒家思想，他們一直努力模仿上古時代的社會形態，二千年來社會最大的變遷只是改朝換代，以至有些史學家評論，中國社會的生產力以至它的形態，幾乎沒有太大的改變，所以我形容中國社會惰性重。
回看西方社會，自從文藝復興、啟蒙運動以後直到現代，它的科學發展是與社會變革並進，而社會變革是與思想創新並進，思想創新需要挑戰權威。
