What about how Beowulf exemplifies the social mores and prevailing views of the Medieval Norseman? It's full of such things as the squabbling between thanes, the lust for money and power, the confusing of pagan ritual and Christian faith, etc. that really were the hallmarks of the Danish/Norse culture in the Middle Ages (and a lot of the Continental cultures as well!).

Not sure if this is one fig of help, but hope it assists somehow.
