Subject: presentation of the "mask"

As the reading, as well as the classroom discussion began, i felt negative towards the way that Goffman presented the presentation of self, or the "mask". I feel there are times that i am being myself and there is no such "mask" being presented to the audience. I sort of felt like Goffman was saying everybody was fake, or not who they really are behind the mask. As discussion continued and ideas were thrown around, I come to realize that everything we do, either unwillingly or willingly will portray some sort of mask. Some role is being played, whether a lover, a teammate, friend, relative, son, daughter, a presentation is being displayed. I dont really like to think of my life and being as playing roles for other people but i guess subconsciously it constantly happens in everyday social interactions.
