I was thinking about some of the issues we were asked to observe while watching the film Song Catcher and the biggest issues that stood out to me in watching the film was the role of the researcher and the gender roles.
While watching the film, I was able to establish that the role of the reasercher seemed to kind of dominate. She wanted to come off as someone who could take care of herself and considered herself an equal to her collegues. She was very intelligent and was using her intelligence to get the information she neaded to complete her book. But the performance she was trying to put on seem to be very challlenging for her, as the people around her (the "audience") had other views on who she was, because she was a female.
The gender roles in the film were basically that women were generally not seen as equals to the men. Therefore the men were wanting to be in control of everything. An example of this can be seen when the female professor was denied a position that was then given to a male, and it was not the first time she had applied for a position of this sort and was denied.
