I think it's difficult for us to comprehend that role playing even exists. After studying Goffman and ideologies regarding role playing, I find myself constantely questioning what constitues a genuine identity. If our identity is socially constructed, then the roles we play are also socially constructed. I think our behaviors are also roles we play. Several music artists emphasize these thoughts, such as Dashboard Confessional and Staind. Both talk about love being a role we play.
