I also had a very hard time believing many of the things that Phil was saying. I found his arguement very interesting and it did start me thinking about many other problems with music in such a way, but I definitely lost a bit of respect when he contradicted everything he said by using an unoriginal song himself. I am interested in reading the paper that he spoke of and it might give a bit more insight into the arguements that I did not completely understand, but overall I agree that music is a personal choice without any affiliation to politics. I hate politics and refuse to associate a form of art and entertainment with it. The one thing that I strongly agree with that was mentioned a few times in the presentation is that of some performers not being true artists. Britney Spears for example is merely entertainment and not art. Whether you enjoy her songs while at a dance club or simple like her enough to buy the CD, I dont think you are supporting people dying in any way.
