Subject: Speaking up in class

When I was reading the Bruce Springsteen book, I was amazed by the amount of participation and the in depth analysis that the 8th grade class did when talking about the Bruce Springsteen songs that their teacher brought in. It made me think of a couple thursdays ago when Garian was commenting about the lack of speaking up that our generation does (Including our class I assume). I know that I wouldnt have made the observations about the Bruce Springsteen songs that those 8th graders made. I was recently visiting my 85 year old grandfather and made the same observation that Garian made about our class. My grandfather wants to discuss everything with me and he wants to know my opinion on everything from the president to social security to women in the workplace. I prefer not to discuss these things with my grandfather because I know that we will never agree about those things and I dont want to start an argument. I think that we all need to make an effort to start speaking up more in class whether or not we think our opinions are going to be well agreed upon.
